STORYTELLERS
2017 Theme: Frontier Folklore

Set out for adventure on the Oregon Trail and bring to life the story that parents once played in 8-bit graphics. Choose your character, gather your supplies, and set out for the unknown of the American West.

Each camper’s story comes together through choices they make along their journey. Forks in the trail, random conflicts, or a chosen path will alter each folklore to uncharted excitement. As campers creatively solve challenges, they develop an understanding of problem and resolution in storytelling, explore setting, character and themes, and get to share the fun of crafting their own adventure.

Campers leave the week with their customized adventure story. Shortly after camp parents are emailed a video of their camper narating their story in our green screen studio.

CAMP PROJECTS

Choose Your Own Adventure, Short Story -
Campers complete a unique adventure story that captures the journey West along the adventurous Oregon trail. Each day focuses on different key aspects of storytelling (character, setting, problem, resolution, etc.)

Green Screen Storytelling - Campers narate their tale of adventure in our green screen studio. This final video is shared with families 2-3 weeks after camp.

ACADEMIC THEMES

Creative Writing/Storytelling Basics -
Camper learn the basics of story structure, character motive and development, and conflict resolution. Younger campers focus primarily on storyboarding and oral storytelling while older campers develop more written content.

Public Speaking Basics - Campers will have a chance to share their stories with their friends at camp, share ideas, and narrate a portion of their group story. While public speaking is not the main focus of this camp we try to develop and practice public speaking in all of our programs.
