Writers at Camp Brainy Bunch will participate in challenging activities that work to build a foundation for effective written communication. At Camp Brainy Bunch, we believe that writing is a process, and that the best way to become a better writer is to simply write. Visit the curriculum tab below for more details!
At Camp Brainy Bunch, we work with young writers to build their communication skills around audience, purpose, and voice. We will explore and consider the words of powerful authors which help to inspire our own pieces. At the same time, we balance all our engaging literacy development activities with games and recreation to keep our day full of energy and fun.
Rising 1st-2nd graders
Our youngest writers will learn the basic elements of nonfiction writing by researching and building their own book about a possible future career. They will learn and practice many expository writing skills, including how to conduct research, explain their facts in an interesting way, and learn how great authors write from the heart. Students will bring home their research book at the conclusion of camp.
Rising 3rd-4th graders
Writers will flex their expository writing muscles by exploring the field of journalism. Students will learn about journalism fundamentals, composition, and how to research, write, and publish features and human interest stories. Writers will actively participate in the publishing of their own original magazine, which you will receive at the conclusion of the summer season.
Rising 5th-6th graders
Our older writers will flex their expository writing muscles by deeply exploring the field of journalism. Students will learn about magazine and newspaper composition, explore ethics, and learn how to research, write, and publish features and human interest stories. Writers will actively participate in the publishing of their own original magazine, which you will receive at the conclusion of the summer season.
* Please note that 3rd-6th graders share some of the same activities and curriculum that vary in complexity and challenge.
