Chelsea Toller, MA: Director of Elementary Education
Chelsea Toller is a teacher and administrator with over 20 years of experience. She has worked as a classroom teacher, Bilingual Teacher on Special Assignment, School Reform Coach, District English Language Development Coordinator, County Teacher Trainer, and Vice Principal. Chelsea’s work in education leadership has been honored by the United Administrators of Oakland Schools, and she has received the Honoring Our Own Award from the Oakland Unified School District. Her years of experience across all facets of elementary education are invaluable to her role as the director of our elementary division, Camp Brainy Bunch. Chelsea has a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Santa Cruz in Community Studies and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Sonoma State University.
Matthew Fraser: CEO & Executive Director
Matthew Fraser and several college friends founded Education Unlimited in 1993 with the vision of teaching students critical thinking skills in a fun learning environment. During his tenure as Executive Director Education Unlimited has grown from a single program with 34 students in its first year to roughly 50 sessions of camp on about a dozen college campuses, with nearly 2,000 students attending each summer some twenty years later!
Lauren Keough, MA: Chief Academic Officer
Lauren has over a decade of experience teaching middle school in just about every subject except math. She has worked as a teacher in New York City in The Bronx and Harlem in both district and public charter schools. Most recently, she served as the Dean of Teaching and Learning for KIPP: S.T.A.R. College Preparatory Middle School, coaching History and English teachers and working on the school leadership team. She has written curriculum that has been used regionally across schools and values raising the rigor bar while keeping engagement high. Lauren has a Bachelor's Degree from UCLA in History and Art History, a Master's Degree in Teaching from Lehman College and an additional Master's Degree in Policy, Organization and Leadership Studies from Stanford University. While at Stanford, she focused her research on teacher support in comprehensive high schools and published work on creating the conditions for successful instructional coaching. Lauren is passionate about supporting instructors, creating valuable professional development to guide adult learning and brings this to her work in this role.
Nermin Kamel, MA: Director of Admissions
Nermin Kamel came to Camp Brainy Bunch after several years as a school administrator, most recently as a high school principal. Nermin earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science with a minor in Business from Whittier College and later received a Master's Degree from California State University at Fullerton in Educational Administration. She taught English and speech/debate for 10 years at La Mirada High School in Southern California before going into school administration. In addition, for 13 years, Nermin served as the Vice-President of the California High School Speech Association directing the California High School Speech and Debate State Championships for nearly 2,000 students and coaches from throughout the state of California.
Jenny Herbert, MBA: CFO
After directing at Education Unlimited summer programs for many years, Jenny joined Education Unlimited's management team in 2003. Her primary responsibilities are to manage the business and financial operations of the company. Jenny earned her MBA with honors from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and is an honors graduate of Stanford University, where she received the Deans’ Award for Academic Accomplishment. Jenny’s academic research, focusing on children’s attitudes about reading and math, has been published in the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology and presented at the meetings of the American Educational Research Association and the National Science Teachers Association.
Sarah McGonagill, Administrative Assistant
Sarah McGonagill earned dual degrees at the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric. Headed to medical school in the fall, Sarah has worked in a variety of roles throughout her college years, including being a member of a stem cell/cancer research task force at Genentech, press operations manager for three sports at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and holds a fascinating role with Virgin Ltd., as a consultant to Richard Branson and his R&D department which works to expand and grow branches of the global conglomerate. Sarah joined the Education Unlimited team in 2014 and has been an invaluable asset as both an administrative assistant in our main office and Director of our Summer Focus program at Cal.
Eric Brandt, Director of Operations
Eric brings over a decade of experience in program management, nonprofit operations, and logistics to his role as Director of Operations. At Education Unlimited, he is responsible for camp logistics, supply management, and general operations. Prior to joining the EU team in 2018, Eric held program management roles at Kiva and Wishbone.org. In addition to his program management experience, he is an avid photographer, and has contributed his images to the marketing endeavors of both EU and his previous organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Macalester College.
